great place
Not sure how many people the Stanley holds ,but it was small,places like this in the 70s made the shows that much more fun,raining like hell in the burgh that night,but lots of fun!There was about 20 of us drove down from Sharon,this was one of the shorter drives for a show,great time was had by all.Even Devo McDowell was at this show!:)

a bit overrated
I do think this show has some special moments and certainly a desire, but it really just doesn't seem as 'on' as so many others. But so many love this one (as do so many the cornell 77).

stanley Mouse Theater
Never seen a Mouse poster for this show...but if it drips as many colorful jerr-licks as this second set, it would be a masterpiece.
There's a slight hiss and a little tin that keeps this low gen tape from being a complete five in my book, meaning it aint that profound BOOMfilled sound of some of the other great recordings of this run...
But man o man, their playin is crystalEEN. JG is ON! Dec 1, 1979...a night that will live forever...Thanks again to archive.org.

the original soundboard --for me
Yes--this still rocks after all these years!
I got this SBD--and yes it is a SBD--in 83'--minus the LLR. I was completely blown away then as I am now. I remember going shopping for cassette decks and bringing this tape for testing to snooty audio stores in Boston--the sales staff--non heads -were blown away too. Nothing beats the imaging and clarity here,really adds to the power of the performance. The jam into, out, and through NFA is exceptional, Gloria jam teases and pleases. This is one you will never tire of--stream ASAP.
This is a standout recording of the boys doing some of their best work in 79. !!!!!!!!!!

Get the Incredible FOB Now Available From TMNSP !!!
...................................................................................................... The FOB I've had for a year is finally availble from TMNSP site and it totally blows the SBD away! It is a MUST HAVE !!!
It sounds like it's recorded dead center; fifteen rows back; four or five feet up; NO FLAWS - NONE - NADA - ZERO (except the usual cut in drumz); and complete with little or no loss of crowd between songs - only Loser's crowd applause is cut short. Wow-ee-Wow!
I've had the He's Gone > Gloria > CC Rider > Jam SBD for twenty-five years. And I know, now, why I didn't keep the rest of the show; and why I tossed The Archive download last month. Mixed high in the SBD, Jerry sounds awful... like post '85 awful .
But this FOB is heavenly. Jerry is mixed just a little back (as well as Bobby), and it makes all the difference. The instruments are as crisp and clear as the SBD but, with a nice touch of reverb. Brent's "tinkle tinkle" is particularly prominent, which I always love. And the crowd ambience just adds to the fun. It almost sounds like a matrix. But they weren't doing that till the mid '80s.
Probably one of the best AUDs is Steinthal's 7.10.81 recording from behind the stage. At only fifteen feet from the stack, it is the Cadilac of recordings. This one is more distant; probably twice as far...but that is still only thirty feet. It is a shockingly good recording of an excellent, excellent show. One of the best AUDs I've ever heard!
The Compendium lists an unspecified B- AUD source. Well, this ain't it folks. This is A++.

this aint no audience tape people....
Please do your homework people, this is obviously a soundboard, probably the one circulated (or recirculated) around 1990 from the archive reel. Many people had this recording without the looks like rain...an obvious result of transfer to 90 minute cassette tape. I recall at the time the only way to get the set onto tape was to use a 110 mintue metal tape and chop up the song order. But get a grip, there was no microphone in 1979 that could have made this recording in the audience! Five Star show none the less (better copies exist).

LRWB and his plumbing...
This aud that richie talks about is all world. I have no idea the miks used (mabye nak 700s seemed popular at the time). Anyway these recordings destroy anything that was made during the '81 run..in other words this taper had cushy seats, mabye 15 rows back full sound coming from the speaker stacks and the stage as well as capturing a very peppy audience. First set seems to fizzle a little after Easy to Love..but the second set goes into the hall o fame (at least the pre-drums). Would love to see a similar recording appear from the night before. Great digging by LRWB!!

One Of The Best
This show was magic from beginning to end. Very good jams evrybody in the band was at peak performance this show. This was my second show and this one was hard to top I have seen the band over 45 times. A great show the first set is just as good. Quality is excellent.

I think the boys liked the new keys player..
I can only wonder how stoked the boys were to have Brent as the new guy...Gloria Jam smokes and that next "jam" is a completely different work of art. I also was very happy to see the pictures from that other reviewer's site. Thanks for those and of course, thank you for this site....the best site on the web!

Testimonial alert!: OK, so a friend of mine left his brother's copy of this show at my house back in about 1981. I popped it in, listened, not knowing anything about the band. I kept playing the not fade away intro over and over and over. That was it. I'm still going strong 24 years later! Thanks to everyone at this site for bringing it all back.

I joined jerry in lead vocals on black peter - that was rocking, nfa the whole thing sizzles and I agree with the others there are some great '79 shows and they do indeed sound distinct.

One of my Faves
I have this tape sans China->Rider. This show is not a Rocker but a Jammer.China->Rider is nice, nothing special. Looks like Rain has nice intro with thunder drums. He's Gone->Gloria Jam->C.C Rider->Jam is a must listen to. Brent may have been in his rookie year but does not play like a rookie. The NFA intro is sweet and lots of jamming Black Peter is right on. Sugar Mag and OMS are a nice revival to end the show. He's Gone, C.C. Rider, the Jams and Black Peter versions here are some of the best played. Great sound the clarity is excellent.

A Must Have
I had this show on a 90 minute tape for years, minus China Cat Sunflower. The sound quality of this download is excellent. How satisfying to finally have the second set of this show again and get it with such great sound. Bobby's guitar had a unique "steely" sound in '79 and Brent is learning the ropes well here. The ARCHIVE and all the contributors should be praised for their gifts to us. The show itself is a churning, bluesy barnburner and should not be missed!

I've had a good quality audio tape of this show for more than 20 years. This is one of the classic shows from the 70's and just an incredible jam all the way through. This one is a must for any collector.
